Minerva is the Roman goddess of wisdom, intelligence, craftsmanship and the arts, medicine, poetry, and - later - trade and strategy in war. She has been compared to Athena, but she has slightly different rulership. Like Athena, she was a virgin goddess, under the power of no man, and she was born fully grown from the head of her father. Her origin is more ancient, coming from the Etruscans (Italy). Around 60 BC, her popularity eclipsed that of the god Mars as the victor in war.
Her main symbols are the olive tree and the owl; she is nearly always pictured with the owl, a symbol of wisdom. Her domains are schools, medicine and the arts.
